The Hyde County Public School system regrets to announce the departure of Angela Todd, who served as a member of the Board of Education for our school system since 2016 and led the board as the esteemed Chair for a number of years. After an exemplary tenure, Ms. Todd stepped down from her position, effective January 17, 2024.
During her tenure, Ms. Todd demonstrated unwavering dedication and leadership, playing a pivotal role in advancing Hyde County Schools' educational initiatives. Her visionary guidance and commitment to excellence have greatly contributed to the success and growth of the Board of Education.
"We are profoundly grateful for Ms. Todd's outstanding service and invaluable contributions during her tenure as the Chair of the Board of Education for Hyde County Schools," said Dr. Melanie R. Shaver, Superintendent of Schools. "Her passion, wisdom, and steadfast leadership have left an indelible mark on our educational community."
Ms. Todd has been instrumental in driving positive change and fostering an environment conducive to academic achievement and growth. Her visionary approach and collaborative spirit have paved the way for numerous significant accomplishments within the educational landscape of Hyde County.
As she embarks on her next chapter in life, Hyde County Schools extends heartfelt appreciation for her dedication, leadership, and commitment to educational excellence. We wish her continued success and fulfillment in all her future endeavors.
Her tenure will continue to inspire and guide the ongoing efforts of our school system as we remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of educational excellence and student success.
With Ms. Todd’s now vacant spot being a Democratic one, the Democratic Party of Hyde County was not able to appoint or recommend candidates at this time. Therefore, The Hyde County Board of Education is opening up a call for any resident of Ocracoke Island interested in serving as the Ocracoke representative on the Board of Education. We ask that you please send an email of interest to Dr. Melanie Shaver, mshaver@hyde.k12.nc.us by no later than this Friday, February 2nd. You will receive a confirmation of your submission.
These interested citizens also need to plan to attend the next Board of Education meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 6th at 5:00pm at either of the meeting sites (O.A. Peay School or Ocracoke School Commons) for an interview process conducted by the current board members so they may decide who will receive the favorable appointment.
