Hyde County Schools’ Teacher of the Year Receives Statewide Award
Hyde County School is very proud to announce that this school year’s District Teacher of the Year just added one more accomplishment to her professional record. Mrs. Callie Luker has been selected as the 2022 Excellence in Teaching Award recipient by the state chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children (NCCEC).
The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the success of children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. CEC is known as THE source for information, resources, and professional development for special educators.
This award recognizes a CEC member teacher who currently provides instruction to students with exceptionalities and is an outstanding member of the profession. His or her work exemplifies the best in special education teaching and reflects significant, documented positive outcomes for students, continued professional development, and the highest standards of educational quality.
Bobbie Grammer, NC Council for Exceptional Children’s Vice President, states “It is always with much pride and honor that we give this award to a person in the state who has displayed outstanding teaching of exceptional children and worked tirelessly to develop and sustain programs that support students with special needs.”
Mrs. Luker will be presented with this award at the CEC’s Annual Conference Awards Ceremony taking place on Saturday, February 26 2022 from 12:10pm – 1:45pm. Mrs. Callie Luker had been previously selected as Hyde County Schools’ District Teacher of the Year 2021-2022 earlier this school year. She is currently the Exceptional Children’s Teacher at Mattamuskeet Elementary School, and has been part of the Hyde County Schools family since 2015.
Hyde County Schools Superintendent, Mr. Stephen Basnight, put it quite clearly. “Mrs. Luker is an incredible educator! She is “the teacher” we all want our children to have when we send them off to school each day. I am so happy that she is being celebrated across our state for the job she is doing for the students in Hyde County Schools. She greatly deserves the recognition!” As the school system’s motto reads “doing what’s best for students”, we could not be more honored to count Mrs. Luker in our school community ranks, and we continue to look forward to her contributions to our students!
